Colour Sergeant Martin Wilson was serving in Afghanistan with 2 Para in 2011 when he was shot in the head. Due to the extent of his injuries, Martin had to learn to read, write and talk again, showing remarkable determination and bravery. Several service charities have supported him during his recovery, but Martin will say that the NFA has stood closest to him throughout and has given him a purpose.

When Martin heard that the NFA’s Head of Events Rosie Thompson was running the Marathon des Sables in April this year he decided this should also be his next challenge. We are all delighted when Walking with the Wounded very generously offered one of their places in the event.  Martin is now running and raising funds for both the NFA and Walking with the Wounded. This is a prime example of how military charities can work together for the benefit of the individual and those beneficiaries that we all seek to help.
